Boothroyd: I still think we'll do it

Watford manager Aidy Boothroyd still believes they will win promotion via the play-offs despite their recent troubles.

The Hornets have drifted down to fifth in the table and still have work to do to secure a play-off spot. They host relegated Scunthorpe on Saturday and Boothroyd feels they need their luck to change.

"We just have to build on where we are, get in the play-off final and win it. We are still in a position this season where we can go and get something. I still think we'll do it, I really believe that.

"I think we are in debt at the moment and we are owed a few things. I believe we are due some luck."

The manager is facing his toughest spell in charge of Watford but he is trying not to let the recent downturn in form get to him.

"I don't think I'm depressed," he said. "I'm disappointed but optimistic about moving forward, especially when you see where the teams are who came down with us.

"We must have been doing something right. But we felt we could get automatic promotion and that looks like it has gone now, bar a miracle. I'm disappointed that has gone and that we still have to consolidate our play-off position."

Aidy Boothroyd has revealed Watford turned down a bid from Derby County in January to sign Nathan Ellington - and that Collins John would have failed a medical had he undergone one when he joined on loan from Fulham.

What do you expect him to say half-wit?!?! The press comes to him and the fans and media expect and demand his opinions. Enlighten us all Garston Boy, shock us with something constructive or **** OFF!!!!!!!

Ouch! Harsh... but fair.
In an ideal world Aidy ,or any other manager would not have to talk to the press but since they do, (to keep us happy), they just say the basics knowing the press will print it up as they like.

Come On You 'Orns

I see tiger gay boy is back to his offensive best...bug off you deluded clapper prat...if you are satisfied with the season we've had then you're an even bigger cretin then your name suggests.

As for you Boothroyd...just shut the fucck up. We dont need luck, we need to pass the ball and move, we need to retain possession not kick it into touch...

Your tactics and team selection have been an embarrassing failure, as have you. You will achieve nothing more at this club except relegation so please please please please please just go...you have sold any talent we might have had an replace it with dross, you total half wit.

Be gone with you.

A B you have failed on two counts.. first automatic promotion, and........... secondly the pure waste of transfer deals made
Posted by: Mark, Watford on 8:46pm Thu 24 Apr 08
To be fair he is hardly going to admit faliure just yet...

I mean he still says Ellington does "amazing things" and Anisworth is the new Lennon probably (despite not giving him a chance..)

Suppose IF we are in the play-offs there is still a chance somehow.

He'd probably take the positive out of anything to be honest!

Havn't heard the word 'cretin' used since 1980 Drippy, i mean Zippy. Who mentioned satisfaction arse wipe? Make yourself known to the Rookery on Saturday if you fancy a 'conversation'. As for Boothroyd, you Zippo will be long gone before a boss who avoided relegation in his 1st season, got promotion the next and into the play offs in his 4th. Shocking record eh Drippy?? Hows your lot getting on this season anyway Drippy? Ah yes, relegation to the 2nd, only 3 years away from the Bedfordshire County League

Alastair Campbell would make an able successor to Boothroyd. He could outspin Aidy easily and his sporting record with the Lions easily matches our achievements at home this season.

Although many of us are dissapointed with the end of season results, being 5th, with two games to play, and a chance of play off promotion is not the time to get rid of your manager. Remember what this club was like under Jack Petchey, do we want those bad old days again? Think long and hard before uttering 'sack him'.

All,

As Watford fans we should be able to look at our present situation and see things for what they are.

Since being promoted, we haveplayed steadily worse fotball. We don't even try and play the passing game. As this season has gone on, our football has disappeared. The manager has boguth increasingly bad players and AB's decision making is getting even worse.

AB is out of his depth. He doesn't know what to do now that he is faced with adversity. The chairman may call for support for our beloved team. Us supporters see things for what they are. If we get promoted we will be pasted beyond belief. I, for one, would rather spend an extra season in the championsihip with a new manager, with new ideas, and new players, so that we are better prepared for the future.

The Board haven't got the balls to get rid of the manager. Celebrating failure is not something we should encourage.

AB cannot see what is truly wrong with our club. If he is stubborn and stupid enough not to realise this then he needs to go.

I had an awful afternoon at work. Then I come on here and see Colin (Mystic Meg) is back to his usual - as I have said before, he makes some very good observations but his good comments get lost amongst the other stuff that he posts. If I am totally honest I think AB has failed in a big way with his transfer dealings this season. I do NOT hate the guy, in fact I still quite like him but he really needs a number two and I do not think we the 'fans' should be calling for his head. We are the only relegated team in with a play-off chance (with cheaper and smaller squads than Sheff Utd and particularly Charlton who had enjoyed several seasons in the Prem and the wealth that comes with it). I actually think WFC fans are quite a good reflection of modern day society. We had a brief taste of success and now not only do we want it again, it is almost that we demand it. Like a child demands a sweet at the check-out till. We are and ALWAYS will be a small edge-of-London club, competing for the support of local individuals, but up against the big boys, and a couple of them are very big. We are Watford, small, friendly and family. Clap, clap, stomp, stomp, family club. For those whose cup in life is always half-empty, and you know who you are, believe me, there are far worse things in life than following a football club who's manager you don't like, who don't always play pretty football and who do, as an organisation, get things wrong. Enron, Nortel...very big and very rich organistions also get things wrong. Let's all cheer up lads, at least we're not German.

I was actually enjoying your input until you let yourself down at the end as per above.

Being half German and proudly so, I get sick and tired of having to endure this cheap, disposable kind of racism that people like you feel is quite acceptable to throw around so easily.

Why not try growing up a bit perhaps?

Jolly good point my man!

I think we must therfore assume that Darius Henderson is not a descendent of Baron Von heinrich mann Henderson of Scweinhundburg!

Good to know that old JB will be on the anti-racism march on saturday instead of at the game,eh?

Do you think he might persuade his idol, creepy Colin, to join him?

certainly I do not think Colin will be welcome on the gay rights march due to his repeated "gay" jibes.

If you look at the top 5 - the 4 teams above us have all won 12 home games this season, we have won 8. We have the best away record. Now I'm not saying this can all be blamed on the home fans, but I do feel that the atmosphere must be affecting the teams performance. We need to get behind the lads for the remaining games this season and leave any moaning until the season has finished. Get behind the lads from the start - don't jump on them at the first sign of a mistake. If we give them full support for the 90 minutes tomorrow like we did all last season, then I'm sure we will get a good result. As for Aidy, whatever your opinion is about the bloke, let him get on with finishing the season before you barrage him with abuse, after all we could still go up. He has obviously been affected by fans getting on his back. Lets just focus on supporting the team for the last 2,4 or 5 games and then focus on what needs to happen next. Come on the horns, lets shut all these pessimists up for good!!

I think we should sack AB now. Watford are a massive club with a huge support base and yes we do have a divine right to be in the Premiership. Why should we stick by him when we have a bad spell, we should be winning every week. Pretty much any manager would get WFC up and keep us there. I also agree why is Aidy banging on about we can still do it...much rather he said we had no chance. No other manager has ever made a poor signing in their career and Aidy should be sacked if he doesn't our massive club into the Premier League this year. Sorry...did I get any of the above wrong...like we are a small club and the only other manager in history to get us up was GT & every manager barr none has made god/bad signings - sod it that's sack him anyway!!!!!!!!!!

I do think we should cheer and clap until we are either out of the play offs or promoted. The we should have a serious look at what went on regarding the second half of the season. If that means getting a new manager then I would wish AB well wherever he went. I always like to see Roeder, Lewington, GT and Jackett doing well, so I would do the same with AB.

If he goes, how about a German manger?

At least we're not German. It was meant as a joke, most people would understand that, possibly even Germans themselves. For the record I despise true racism (hatred of a different culture, colour or faith) and I do NOT see such comments as racist. Before political correctness took a hold in the West, people would openly and freely share such comments, being intelligent enough to see the comment for what it is. These days you cannot say too much at all without causing offence to someone. History shows that England fought two wars against the Germans, it's a fact. Places like South Oxhey, Basildon, Harlow and Stevenage were all built after WWII due to the severs bomings that happened to London and the surrounding areas. Strangely enough, it has created a humourous view of Germans. Fawlty Towers is one such example, but do people think of John Cleese really as a racist. I think not. If I caused you offence there was none intended, but living in what is supposed to be a democracy I am entitled to write something that I intend as a bit of fun. I guess it is all about perspective.
