Deaf Awareness Week
The Hearing Healthcare Practice (HHP) in Harpenden has been opening its doors this week with a series of events to coincide with national Deaf Awareness Week.
Supported by over 100 charities and organisations, Deaf Awareness Week involves a UK-wide series of national and local events.
Under the title Help Break the Sound Barrier, the free events have mostly been held in the garden and offices of the Hearing Healthcare Practice, in Wellington House Harpenden.
Each day has a different focus, and do not worry if you have missed earlier events - there is still plenty to come.
Today until 5pm the HHP will focus on the fast growing range of tiny cosmetic devices which can be hidden away behind the ear.
These have rapidly overtaken hearing aids worn inside the ear as the instruments of choice by discerning clients and professionals alike.
And tomorrow from 10am until 5pm many of HHP's clients will talk about their life changing experiences at the hands of the HHP team.
Practice founder Robert Bieny, RHAD, FSHAA, MRSH, said: "Everyone, staff, clients and visitors get so much from these open days. New clients are sometimes reluctant to approach us. I suppose the front of the building is a little foreboding, but when everything is opened up and we sit outside people are less reluctant to come over for a chat.
"It's great to have the chance to be able to dispel the myths that some people have about hearing aids.
"Hearing loss can create tension in relationships and sometimes people are concerned how others will view them if they start using hearing aids. It gives us all a tremendous boost to help people accept their hearing loss, to make a difference to them and to improve their quality of life."
The first UK hearingcare company to be approved a Centre of Excellence by The Association of Independent Hearing Healthcare Professionals, the Hearing Healthcare also recently celebrated its 27th anniversary in Harpenden.
