Queens' taste national glory
Queens' School Academy won the English Schools Football Association Under-18 Colleges Trophy on Wednesday.
The side from the specialist sports and science college in Aldenham Road, Bushey, beat Middlesbrough College 3-2 in a thrilling encounter at Scunthorpe United FC's ground to lift the cup.
"This is only the second year they have been running the academy and so have only been in the competition two years," said Headmaster Terry James.
"They beat top sides and academy teams to get there in seven rounds. We are very pleased. We are very proud of them. To win a national competition with some good teams is great for them."
Queens' were 3-0 up at half time thanks to goals from Luke Beardsworth, David Pugh and Spencer Bellotti, and they kept their three-goal lead intact thanks to a penalty save from keeper Sam Harper.
However, the side from Teeside launched a comeback in the second-half, scoring twice to set up a nervy finish.
Queens': Sam Harper; Joe Kelly, Jack Robertson, Jake Gilbert, Phil Thomas; Joe Gallagher, Tom Inch (cap) David Pugh, Andy Lomas; Luke Beardsworth, Spencer Bellotti.
