THE young artist whose creative design will feature on the front of this year's Harpenden Carnival programme has been announced.

More than 100 striking pictures from Scouts, Beavers, Rainbows and school pupils in the district were entered in this year's competition.

But 15-year-old Charlotte Haynes, a pupil at St George's School in Sun Lane, Harpenden, managed to bowl over carnival organisers Harpenden Round Table with her imaginative painting, which cleverly incorporates this year's oriental theme.

Stuart Gallagher, chairman of the organising committee, said: "We were amazed at the sheer volume and quality of the entries this year which made picking a winner even harder.

"The depth of imagination and use of colour and techniques led us to choosing Charlotte's entry."

The carnival - which is being sponsored by the Review - helps to raise funds for local charities and is on Sunday, May 18, in Rothamsted Park.
