Mayor of Hertsmere Martin Saunders hosted a charity football festival in Shenley last week.

Teams from organisations around the borough raised more than £2,000 in aid of Asthma UK at Arsenal FC's training ground in the village last Wednesday. Each team collected sponsorship money to take part in the tournament, and a shirt signed by all the Premier League side's players was auctioned after the final whistle. It was the first event of its kind run by the mayor and Hertsmere Borough Council, but it is hoped it will become an annual competition.Among the sides taking part were Hertfordshire Highways, Hertfordshire Constabulary and the Mayor's All-Stars, which included two of Mr Saunders' sons, friends from Radlett and old school friends. The team from Hertsmere Leisure were beaten 2-0 in the final by the Highways side.Mr Saunders, shown with members of Team Hertsmere, said: "It was a wonderful event and it was lovely to see so many teams from local authorities and companies taking part. "The final figure raised will be over £2,000 which will be donated to Asthma UK along with other monies raised during my year as mayor."
