Traffic is top of new Shenley councillor's agenda

A new Shenley Parish councillor has called for more traffic calming measures and better transport links in the village.
Mary Button, 49, of Wood Hall Lane, took up her role on the authority earlier this month and this week said she hopes to help improve the area she has lived in for 14 years.
The former nurse is a married housewife with two children and helped set up the Shenley Travel Plan group, which assesses traffic issues, almost four years ago.
She said: "Over the last few years the group has met up with Hertfordshire Highways and asked for the views of residents on the traffic problems, particularly in Green Street.
"There were a lot of terrible accidents there in the past and we have tried to introduce traffic calming measures to the area.
"I also think that the area would benefit from better public transport links. I worked on a voluntary basis with the group and thought that I could help the area by becoming a parish councillor.
"I am also concerned about looking after the elderly, especially isolated older people in the area."
Mrs Button said she would listen to residents' problems and work hard to make a difference.
Council clerk John Marks said: "Mary has proved herself to be a very committed resident with the work she has done in the past. She will be a very valuable addition to the council."
