Shenley stroll on to first league victory
Shenley Village CC 164-4
Tewin CC 163 all out
Hertfordshire Cricket League Division Six
Shenley put Tewin into bat on a damp wicket and got their league season off to a great start.
Ed Lillywhite took his first of a five wicket haul from only the third ball of the game.
At the other end, James Davenall was also putting the pressure on with a fine display of accurate fast bowling, taking two quick wickets in successive overs.
The first three wickets were all caught behind by the ever dependable wicket keeper Tom Blackman.
At this stage Tewin were 29 for 3 off just 12 overs and struggling to cope with the Shenley opening pair.
However, the visitors managed to compile a respectable score, held together by a solid innings from Darlymple (92).
Lillywhite and Davenall were eventually replaced by newcomers Vimal Rajeskan and David Sheldon. Both bowled well and continued to apply further pressure.
Sheldon was particularly impressive with his pace and accuracy.
Lillywhite came on at the end to take three quick wickets from just two overs to finish with excellent figures of 27-5 from 13 overs, bowling Tewin out for 163.
In reply, Shenley started positively with Richard Evans (20) and Vernon Senayake (59).
But it was another newcomer, Gareth Brown (59 not out), who impressed by walking Shenley home to their first victory of the season.
