Eight vandals were arrested by police in Borehamwood during a crackdown on juvenile crime on the infamous 292 bus route between Edgware and Borehamwood.

Youths causing serious damage, including slashing seats, kicking lights out, throwing stones and smashing windows were caught on CCTV by police.

The 292 route, which stops at Elstree & Borehamwood railway station, Rossington Avenue and Tesco before going onto Edgware, Burnt Oak and Colindale, is run by London Sovereign on behalf of Transport for London. There have been numerous complaints about anti-social behaviour on the route, including assaults on drivers and vandalism.

During this week's crackdown, police arrested eight 14 to 17-year-olds linked to incidents of criminal damage and issued final warnings'. PC Phillip Tuck said: "London Sovereign have had a lot of problems with youths misbehaving. A lot of the bus drivers understandably were not happy. We started riding on the buses in uniform to reassure the drivers and other passengers."

The company, which has previously said 292 buses experience more damage than night buses going through central London, praised the work of community police team in tackling the problem.
