Lawyer takes knife message to school
A BARRISTER who prosecutes local crooks is planning to visit St Albans schools in a bid to keep children away from a life of crime.
Peter Shaw, based at the Crown Prosecution Service in Victoria Street, is to visit schools in the district in the hope that children will steer clear of knife crime.
He said: "We are always going to be able to restrict access to firearms, because they are illegal, but knives are so much more readily available."
Mr Shaw is to show vivid CCTV images from a recent Hertfordshire knife attack which ended in a victim bleeding to death.
The horrifying pictures will be accompanied by computer-generated simulations, which he says teenagers find more arresting than actual photographs.
He said: "I want to show them it is not a game when somebody's life is ebbing away."
The barrister has already visited Nicholas Breakspear School, and is planning to drop into others in the area soon.

Stay away from my childrens' school please Mr Shaw, stop acting as a government lackey, get on with the job you're paid to do, which is speedy and competent administration of justice, getting those charged with crimes through the courts with
efficient case management, instead of the chaotic shambles the CPS seems to aspire to.

Bob, please go easy on
Barrister Peter Shaw. I think he should be commended for the bold step he is taking by trying to appeal to these young people that, following a life of violence and crime with knives is not a good option to follow in life. There are so many other lawyers people in other professions whose "professionalis" seems to erased completely from their minds, the consequences of violent knife crime not only on the victim and his immediate family and loved ones, but also the consequence and effect it has on the society. I think Barrister Peter Shaw is a sensible, sensitive and compassionate human being by taking this bold step to enter into schools and encourage young people to shun knife violence!He should be commended and emulated.

Message for Bob, stop talking about something you know nothing about, the hard work and the dedication of the police and CPS is what keeps your son safe on the streets. You should be supporting the police and CPS not knocking them. Both the Herts Police and The CPS do sterling work. Mr Shaw please ignore the rubbish that Bob wrote and continue to do you school visits to ensure, he never gets a call to say his son has been the victim of a knife crime. Keep up the continued good work.

Steve and Simon, you are both talking from the wrong orifice or else you work in the Herts Police/CPS press offices paid to churn out Good News. Anyone with experience of the local courts, esp. defence lawyers, will identify with my comments about the efficiency of the CPS. Mr Shaw is inviting himself into local schools to promote the government's agenda of fear - but vote for us, we're doing something about it. Are weapons an issue/a problem in St Albans schools? No they are not. But now you can be sure they soon will be.
