THE FAMILY of a vulnerable and elderly man who went missing over night at the weekend have thanked the public and police for their efforts to find him.

Tim Jones, 68, was last seen in Rothamsted Park at about 3.20pm on Friday as he made his way to a gym class, but never arrived.

He was found the following evening in the car park of the Royal British Legion in Leyton Road, a few buildings away from where he went missing. He had fallen there and spent the night.

Ailsa Roe, a police spokeswoman, said: "Tim and his family would like to thank everyone who was involved in the search, especially the Hertfordshire Police Force for their prompt response and diligent work, the trained volunteers who gave their time and expertise and the general public whose response was overwhelming.

"The family would also like to express a special thank you to the staff of Harpenden Sports Centre, whose concern and quick thinking was invaluable in the search operation."

Mr Jones, who suffers from Parkinsons disease, was taken to Hemel Hempstead hospital with minor injuries.

As residents of Cowper Road we saw the search and the helicopter was overhead in the afternoon, there was a relatively large police presence in Cowper Road on Saturday afternoon due to a supposed (bearing in mind where he was found in the end this must have been spurious) sighting in the road. Really pleased to hear he was found safely.
