SCHOOLS preparing pupils for summer exams are encouraging them to log on to a revision website to boost their grades.

Schools across the district enjoy a countyfunded subscription to the SAM learning website, which sets and marks questions across a range of subject areas at GCSE and Key Stage 3 level.

In a recent analysis of secondary school exam results by the Times Education Supplement, students who had spent more than ten hours working on the programme achieved half a grade higher than expected.

Marlborough School in St Albans is just one local school which is spurring students to get online in the run up to exams.

Ms Debora Crook curriculum manager, said it was one of many tools used to get children learning.

She said: "We really like it because it gives students instant feedback on what they have done.

"Staff can also see what they have achieved.

"A lot of students like going on line so it is a useful tool to encourage them to learn."
