THE Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire ambulance service is looking for volunteers to be trained as community first responders.
Responders are often the first people on the scene and can administer basic first aid skills while a paramedic unit is on the way.
Unpaid volunteers will be trained in basic life support skills, how to use an automated external defibrillator and how to fit an oxygen mask.
At present there is a shortfall of volunteers in Welwyn Hatfield and the ambulance service is due to hold two recruitment evenings next month. All volunteers must be over 18, physically fit and able to pass a criminal records check.
Anyone interested is asked to go along to the recruitment days on July 5 and 6 at the Welwyn Ambulance Training Centre in Ascots Lane, Welwyn Garden City. The sessions start at 7.30pm.
