Win hopes go flat

Shenley Village II 170-4 Old Camdenians II 228-4 Saracens Hertfordshire Cricket League Division Nine Shenley Village had high hopes of doing well in this match but succeeded in another draw, which is not good for their current league position.

Losing the toss and requested to bowl it was to be a long day.

On small rear boundaries it was no surprise to concede over 50 extras to the opposition on their home turf, with vigorous batting on offer too from Old Camdenians on a good batting track, it was going to be a tough ask to chase the 228 runs amassed.

Both Cairns, father 56 and son 73, scored freely after settling, after some excellent bowling by Wood saw the opener depart without scoring. But the pitch went flat and the batsmen took control.

Various bowlers were tried at varying times in the allotted overs and Wood 2 for 70, Hodge 1 for 19, and Stanley 1 for 26 took the wickets before the innings closed.

In reply, Shenley had to contend with bowlers bowling straight once they were in their rhythm and were frustrated in losing their first two batsmen for only 51 runs on the board.

Lewis (50) and Stanley (26) led the charge but couldn't take advantage of the tight bowling until a cameo role was played by Liam Willingham as the frustrated opposition who couldn't take wickets either vented out their frustrations.

With the departure of Lewis, Willingham set about raising his average and thumped several boundaries to finish not out on 53, hitting the last ball to the boundary to secure his first half century of the campaign.
