Eustace red card overturned

John Eustace will be available to face Hull City in tomorrow's second leg of the play-off semi-finals after Watford succeeded in having Sunday's red card overturned.
Aidy Boothroyd immediately announced his intention to contest the dismissal after his skipper was shown red by referee Kevin Friend for supposedly not playing the ball during a second-half incident with the Tigers' Richard Garcia.
However, video replays showed the former Stoke City midfielder was attempting to pull out of a tackle prior to the collision.
Eustace's experience and influence is likely to be vital at the KC Stadium as the Hornets bid to overturn the 2-0 first leg deficit to set up a Wembley showdown with either Bristol City or Crystal Palace, who meet tonight.

With the feeling of injustice so fresh in the players' minds and the fact this is a play-off where they are 2-0 down, what more motivation could they need? I really hope the players can use all that to exact some revenge and get us to Wembley!

Thank god the FA saw sense on that one. I note the offical site makes a point of inferring that the referee offered us no help in the matter. Shame he was too pig headed to admit his mistake. At least we have a proper ref in Mark Clattenburg on Wednesday night. It's going to be very tough and personally I think it's beyond us but there's no harm in giving it a good go.

anyone think teh FA should charge Phil Brown with bringin the game into disrepute for claiming eustace headbutted a hull player. If i was eustace i'd sue brown for deformation of character. Watford to beat hull 2-0 at teh KC and win on Pennos and please aidy don;t bring Henderson back into teh starting line up we actually played football without him!!!

The game will now be a better spectacle, with Watford out to show that they were harshly treated on Sunday. It could be quite a difficult game to handle, with Ashbee in everyone's face and he will no doubt wind Eustace up. I would like to see Williams in the midfield, if he is fit enough, even if it is for 60 mins like Barmby did on Sunday. Please do not Darius back as we played so well without him!!.
My line up would be: Lee, Doyley, Bromby, Shittu (or DeMerit if he is not fit), Sadler, Smith, Williams, Eustace, McAnuff, Priskin, Ellington. Subs: Poom, Ainsworth, DeMerit(or Mariappa if Shittu does not play), Williamson/O'Toole, Henderson/Kabba.

Sorry VoR, can't agree on Henderson or Doyley. Henderson is a target man who works hard and causes problems. He will not create or put away chances and we do not play the ball on the ground when he is up front. Also nobody seems to read his knock downs, so they are wasted. If the choice is between Doyley and Mariappa I would go with Doyley On the first goal he was caught marking 2 players, as Ainsworth was not covering back the wide man (a job that Tommy Smith does very well). Whatever Doyley did would have been wrong! So why not show us your team selection and subs and you can say who you would put in, rather than who you would leave out. It will be a good game and I am trying to get time out to see it. If not I will just have to watch it with couple of pints to see me through. We can win if we get the early goal, and would win if our disallowed was restored as well as our captain.

In my house football is everything. I'm so angry with Ref Friend.I'd like to see Watford ask for the game to be replayed given the effect his wrong decisions might have on us as a club.I certainly hope he never comes back to Vicarage Road as i for one wont forget or forgive him.Moving on i'd like to see Doylley make way for DeMerritt tomorrow and Henderso in for Ainsworth.(He looks like a good prospect but we need H tomorrow.I'd also like to see a decent 4th official who can control Brown and Horton.And a last request a three nil win with someone making sure Fraizer Campbell gets what he deserves after Sunday.Come on!!!!!!

The only thing intimidating in Hull is the mutants that live there...Ashbee is a cheat, your manager is a cheat and as for Horton and his Luton roots,nuff said. I DO hope that all of this over confidence slaps you in the face, even if it wasn't my team you were playing I'd support almost anyone against you lot now (bar Luton and ManU) and if you go up I hope and pray you do as bad as Derby...your manager deserves it. Have I mentioned that he's a cheat???

As I say I have no complaints about DH's workrate, but I just don't rate him and he does not improve our syle. He worked well with Marlon King, as they had an understanding, but nobody else seems to pick up on his knock downs and he gives away too many fouls (many of which I are harsh). I would rather use him off the bench if we aren't getting anywhere - mind you he might keep Ashbee quiet, if he doesn't lamp him first!!

Friend should be consigned to the Blue Square along with Rob Styles for that display. Of course, no such thing will happen and these jumped up Napoleons will just continue to get away with it. There is one consolation should Watford not make it to Wembley and through some fluke Hull win the final. At least we will have the satisfaction of seeing them get spanked each and every week. I will be straight onto Betfair backing to them to get relegated, should get a fair price before the season starts, maybe even 4 or 5 percent, better return than putting it in the building society.

Your comments come across as very arrogant and you escalated things (in my opinion, obviously) with your post of 5:03PM, 6:06PM & later yesterday when you posted your salary, suggested our support wasn't as good as yours and rattled on about your house, swimming pool, said Southerners always criticise the North, etc.
I'd like to point out spelling, grammar & punctuation are really useful when communicating via the written word.
As regards football, I'll just say the ref had a major impact on Sunday's match for obvious reasons but that we also made errors such as Big Danny challenging Mat Sadler that lead to your first goal.
That said, if Myhill not had such a great game, I reckon it would be 2-2 and a much more interesting game tonight. I hope Mr Brown is true to his words on the HCFC site and he will go for a win as that gives us the chance we need to hit you on the break. If we can get to the 20th minute at 0-2 or even 1-2, I reckon you'll wobble then it's down to raw courage....but I would say that, wouldn't I?!
If it does all go wrong for us & you get passed Bristol City as well, good luck in the Prem as I fear you'll need it more than we did last season - even with all your Dad's Army of experienced campaigners.
