Big week ahead for Wood

It is a big week for Boreham Wood FC.

In the space of a few days, the club have the chance to take another giant step towards securing Ryman League Premier Division survival and to lift a piece of silverware.

Three points at Heybridge Swifts on Saturday would go a long way to keeping George Borg's outfit safe from the dreaded drop.

An important 3-0 win at home to Leyton at the weekend moved Wood further up the table, and there is every hope they can finish the job.

However, it remains tight, with a number of teams still feeling the pressure.

Wood have just four league games to go, but the final two are against Staines Town and Ramsgate, two sides challenging for the play-offs.

That makes Saturday's trip to Heybridge and then a home game against Carshalton Athletic seven days later, two sides also fighting to avoid the drop, crucial matches and two that Wood cannot really afford to lose.

Borg will want his side's future secured before his troops have to face Staines and Ramsgate.

And on Tuesday, Wood travel to the County Ground at Letchworth to take on Ware in the final of the Hertfordshire Senior Cup.

With the big guns of the county, including Watford and current holders Barnet, out of the competition, Wood and Ware will both be keen to capitalise and to take their chance.

Wood will probably start as favourites, as Ware play in Ryman League Division One North, one step below the Meadow Park outfit in the non-league pyramid.

The match kicks off at 7.45pm.
