City Reserves bow out with goal feast
St Albans City Reserves brought their Capital League season to an emphatic close on Monday with not only their sole home win of the campaign but also a 10-0 drubbing of Leighton Town at Clarence Park.
The Saints scored five times in either half with star billing going to substitute Inih Effiong who struck an excellent eleven minute hat trick as the side with leakiest defence on their travels in the Eastern Division of the Capital League suffered the heaviest beating of any side in the league this season.
Daniel Giemanger opened the scoring on 11 minutes following a low cross by Hamza Twomey and five minutes later Twomey added the second himself with a lob that keeper Bell pushed up but could not prevent from entering the Hatfield Road goal.
Richard Oxby added the third following another Twomey cross on 21 minutes and five minutes later Chris Haslam added the fourth after Giemanger saw his shot blocked. Just before the half hour Oxby headed home his second to give the Saints a five-goal lead at the interval.
Four minutes after the restart central defender Ross Hunt volleyed home the sixth with Effiong starting his spree with an excellent right footed effort on 59 minutes. On 65 minutes Effiong made it 8-0 after rounding Bell and completed his hat trick on 69 minutes following good work by Giemanger.
Twomey completed Leighton's woe with the Saints tenth goal on 81 minutes.
