Aidy Boothroyd has defended his decision not to play Collins John in the Reserves on Monday night.

The manager claimed last week that John, the Dutch forward signed to replace Marlon King, was short of match fitness and many expected him, along with the likes of Lionel Ainsworth, Jay DeMerit and Adrian Mariappa, to run out against Leyton Orient on Monday night.

But John, who has not featured in any of the last three matches, was not required and he looks high unlikely to be involved tomorrow (Saturday) against Crystal Palace.

Darius Henderson and Tamas Priskin look likely to start a home game for the first time as a pair, with record signing Nathan Ellington and Steve Kabba set to provide back up on the bench.

"I could probably play in the Reserves," said Boothroyd, whose playing career was cut short at the age of 26 because of injury.

"The level is nowhere near the first team and that's the problem we have in the whole game. You go from youth-team football and it's almost like a dance at times. There is big gap between that and the first team and I think it's better to work Collins with the first team."

John has not even made the 16 for the last two matches and has been linked with a summer move to QPR. Asked if the striker still has a part to play, Boothroyd replied: "They have all got a part to play. We have had to fully rehabilitate Collins He's got undoubted talent but unfortunately for him I've got to pick players that have got to hit the ground running and that can win.

"CJ is a terrific lad, has worked very hard to get himself fit but Tamas has come back, done very well at Preston and I thought he was terrific at West Brom in the first-half on Saturday. He is the guy in form at the minute and he is the guy who should be up there with Henderson."

Henderson and Priskin have their strengths as a pair but their inclusion means Watford will lack the raw pace to unhinge a Palace side boasting the best defensive record in the Championship.

Priskin is the most talented striker we have on our books at the moment and on the evidence so far I would play him ahead of John everytime. Goes without saying he's better than Ellington and he's certainly more skillful than Doris. He was good in the first half against West Brom. I suspect we won't be seeing John next year. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if our squad of strikers was completely different come the start of next season, even if we don't go up.

Well Berko Horn your comment that Priskin is the most talented striker at the club at the moment in all honesty is probably right BUT !!! what does that say about Boothroyd's option 's PRISKIN is very very poor and once again tomorrow you will see him flatter to deceive do nothing create nothing Not run the channels not create a thing ,a couple of good touches vs WBA does not make a season and he was completley non exisitent in 2nd half before being dragged off AGAIN ! this striker reason is why we have blown it in my opinion hope i am wrong but the board and boothroyd need to have a very look look at themselves , i am sure warnock will not be shaking in his boots at the thought of Prickin and henderson tomorrow !

if we are playing P and H, crosses from the flanks are an absolute must. There's no point in launching the ball from our own half as there's no nippy striker to steal in and pick up the pieces. P&H must have the chance to head goalwards.

Warnock will be worried about DH and DS battering his back four and has said so in the past. I think Kabba would be more of a threat than powderpuff Priskin, although I must sympathise with AB's selection dilemna - who to pick from a srikeforce of 6 who have scored less than 20 goals between them !

Simmo, you're right. The fact that Priskin is the most talented striker at the club speaks volumes about our striking purchases over the last year. I wouldn't even put him in the Top 20 Championship strikers. That's why I'd be surprised if there wasn't a complete refurbishment of our striking options before next season, whether we are promoted or not.

Am I missing something here?
Aidy says he doesn't want CJ in the reserves but wants him to work with the first team, yet admits he's not match fit. He said recently CJ's not in the first team as he needs players who can hit the ground running, and that CJ needs to get match fit. Aidy also said that all players still have apart to play? With only 3 or maybe 6 games left, what & when exactly ,is CJ going to contribute something to the team? I am very confused as to why CJ is here?!

TP did 2 decent things first half @ WBA & bugga all before being subbed in second--talent without application is useless.

DH needs help & if we rely on TP for it then he has to show far more.

Yes obvious talent but very little effort or impact so far.lets hope he shows some determination-at last!

Let me get this right, you must sympathise with someone who has bought in poor strikers and now can't find anyone to score a goal? He bought the players now he has to get them to do the job they are paid handsomely to do.

Aidy is the master of his own downfall.

Who would you use instead of Priskin? I reckon Kabba has got to be worth a start, at least he doesn't mind chasing down lost causes and I'm sure it makes it harder for the oppostion if their defence don't have time to pick a pass.

Totally agree Hurlsburls but if TP starts then let us hope he carries on where he ended up last season(improving) rather than how he started this season(pathetically)

Well said Stirky.
However, I expect the strikers to play facing our goal for 80 minutes as usual !
Most will disagree but I think that NE is the best link front player that we have. I'd play him (and then Doris in the second half) with SK.

Hold on a minute....I've not heard of any manager bemoaning the state of reserve team football before, how do other clubs get their players into shape?
I'm afraid that doesn't wash with me, he's gone stark starring mad I tells ya.

VoR, it's got to the stage where everyone is analysing what Boothroyd says in minute detail - probably with good reason too. Seems to me that moaning about our Reserves isn't the best way to encourage players in the wilderness to put in the effort and try to impress!
Anyway, would love to see Priskin score a few...he's done it for Hungary, why not us?!

"Confused" could be the word of the season.

Come on u Horns!!

The reserve team level is poor because he does not play fringe players in the team. They need match practice to keep in shape and alert.

If we can get the ball wide and behind the defence then Priskin and Henderson is an ideal first choice. Priskin is a box player and not one to run for the knock downs. Henderson could be more use heading at goal in the box than knocking the ball down to space that is not being covered by his team mates. JJ and JE could then come from deep and the edge of the box to pick up the loose clearances. I can see it now. The Watford of old, skinning defenders and creating numerous chances.... Now to return to the TARDIS and back to 2008 with happy memories of when I supported a free scoring team.

We can score goals, but we just need to remember how to create them and then what to do when we have a chance.

Come on you Horns, you CAN do it, just BELIEVE!!!!!!

****

i'm sick of this talk of promotion. When Palace thunder in their third without reply tomorrow you'll all be jeering again.

Make no mistake, another home stinker is on the cards. Palace are hitting form and in Warnock they have an experienced manager.

Our long ball fairies will simply not rise to the occasion...in much the same way as they've been doing since November.

At the moment our false league position is shielding the manager from widespread scrutiny. Come five oclock tomorrow it could all be very different.

I want a team i can be proud of again, a team i can identify with. Give us the Jacketts, the Holdens, the Mooney's and the Johnson's over this bunch of arrogant, misfiring rubbish.

I want my club back...i've had enough of the spin, the lies, the corruption, the gloss without the substance.

Bugger off Boothroyd.

Sage boy, Vor. ozzy ****, pint in the moon tomorrow?

Aidy Boothroyd has assured loan striker Collins John he will have a part to play for Watford in the promotion run-in.

AB stated that he is not match fit - not picked for reserves?

Clearly AB has another agenda not in the interest of WFC, it has become clear he has lost his way and does not noi who to turn to for help!

dont worry abt the result today Ive got it sorted. Simple, I layed WFC on betfair big style !!
It is scary that everyone has Henderson as their hero. Alot of running around but not much of a goal scorer and as for penalties...
As for Collins John, what is that all about. How much has it cost to bring him to the club. I dont suppose his 20K? a week was dependent on something silly like appearances !!

Hendo must play, he always causes opposition defences so many problems and makes space for the other strikers.

Can pick anyone of the other 3 really (Kabba, Ellington & Priskin) to join him. Need to get Smith & Mcanuff involved, get those crosses in and we'll win for sure.

Do not understand John situation. It's a very expensive trial if he's on 20k/week for 4 months!

Heh ho, Let's all keep the faith today. Come on Aidy & You Golden Boys!
