Hornets unchanged for Eagles

Aidy Boothroyd has kept faith with the same starting line-up that drew with West Bromwich Albion last time out for Watford's penultimate home game of the regular season against Crystal Palace at Vicarage Road this afternoon.

This means Jordan Stewart continues in place of Mat Sadler at left-back, while Tamas Priskin again partners Darius Henderson up front.

Palace boss Neil Warnock, meanwhile, has made just the one change to the team that accounted for Scunthorpe United 2-0, with Matt Lawrence coming in for Danny Butterfield at right-back.

On-loan Chelsea player Scott Sinclair again features in midfield, while one of the Eagles' exciting crop of youngsters, Victor Moses, gets the nod alongside Clinton Morrison in attack.

The Hornets know that a win, coupled with other results going their way, could get them right back in the hunt for automatic promotion, but a defeat may leave them looking nervously over their shoulders if the race for the play-offs continues to intensify.

Watford: Lee; Doyley, Bromby, Shittu, Stewart; Smith, O'Toole, Eustace, McAnuff; Priskin, Henderson. Substitutes: Sadler, DeMerit, Williamson, Kabba, Ellington.

Crystal Palace: Speroni; Lawrence, Hudson, Fonte, Hill; Soares, Derry, Watson, Sinclair, Moses, Morrison. Substitutes: Scannell, Fletcher, Hills, Ifill, Butterfield.

I can't wait for the spin from AB on this one, I honestly think it would be best that we miss out on the play-offs and have some changes for next season (AB) 4.5 mill player on the bench comes on (10mins to go)after Demeret with shittu up front, what the f**k is going on, time to hit the bottle

You are USELESS! Totally USELESS!

Are u reading Simpson and Ashton?

If you keep this total clown in charge then next season will be a relegation battle....by the time you sack him in November IT WILL BE TOO **** LATE!!!!!

he must **** go now!!!!!

We have all had enough, enough, enough.

Forgot the league table, its false, since xmas we have been awful, relegation fodder!

This is the worst team ive seen in ages....the crap he has brought in are rubbish!!! total crap.

All,

I agree with the lot of you. Aidy Boothroyd is not good enough, end of. He is not a good manager and why the hell that pathetic excuse of a board has not had the balls to get rid of him is beyond me. I am sick and embarrassed to say I am a Watford supporter. We are the laughing stock of the division and I have had enough of it.

I live in hereford and have DRIVEN over 5000 miles alone for our home games this season, and who knows how much for the away games this season. I will not do this any more. The club needs money, it's not getting anything from me from now on. AB has wasted £millions on total crap, funded by true supporters like myself. I will not do this while this sub-standard youth-team coach is in charge.

Sorry about being negative but Watford are utterly sh*t and the board should DO THEIR JOBS and get rid of him now.

chitster, woburn says...
5:22pm Sat 19 Apr 08

How much for Nathan? and Priskin? and Kabba? and Henderson? and Collins John? This is AB's front line, they will all be on big wages and therefore impossible to get rid of, how depressing to think that they will all be with us next season, someone has mentioned the possibility of relegation next season with the above that may be the case.

Heard AB saying on 3 counties that if the team gets the ball on the floor within the 6yd box they should score! That somes up our tactics get the ball on the floor in the 6yd box nothing more nothing less but if that doesn't work what else to we do, the answer NOTHING!

Another predictable result and performance.
Hoofroyds teams and tactics always suck the spirit out of the game and leave everyone severely underwhelmed.
He won't go until,at least, the summer. He shouldn't be sacked now though because this is his team and he deserves the chance to play out the whole season. However he doesn't have the ability to get us promoted because he is a one trick pony who has been found out.
I hope he departs in the summer and we get the influx of new blood/spirit that we desperately need.Without it we would be in big trouble next season.

Unless you lot live in Vicarage Road then how on earth do you get to the game and post your slaggings before 5.20pm?

I was there and it was daylight robbery - we absolutely battered Palace. Apart from Stewart clearing one off the line 1st half they were not in it at all until their breakaways. No it wasn't perfect and I don't agree with everything Aidy does, but how does one goal change our crowd from supportive and chanting the manager's name to sack him in an instant? Most of the posters here are a good example of why we don't deserve any better.

Obviously some of the posters here don't go to the games.
However they still have a right to comment.
We certainly weren't battering Palace today. We were slightly unfortunate to fall behind(it was a very good goal)but after that we were utterly clueless.
The team doesn't deserve any better because we "play" crap football.Hoofers has wasted millions on players who he won't even play.

Agree with u re performance..
Walking is quicker than driving..
strikers not scoring...
one dimentional, trying CB to score and leaving striker on bench......
He's lost the plot as well as the dressing room, not a good recipe and the board aren't silly, they recognise that this team will not be promoted this season with Aidy at the helm, they've got to be brave enough to act.
There are rumblings afoot!!!

i was right not to be confident (see 1st post)..i had a bad feeling about today.

to be honest i'd rather we didn't have to play the play-off games as we're SO out of form it will be inevitable what will happen.

lets just start a fresh next season and clear out all the dead wood and get a few decent players in...

despite all the evidence i still find it difficult to support getting rid of AB. The memory of him getting us promoted is still with me. I dont think he has done much right since actually but it is still puzzling how it has gone so spectacularly wrong. It is not so much falling down the league it is how there has been no evolution of our style of play which really makes me question AB. But strangely i just cannot get excited about calling for his head. It is the feeling that things could still be even worse than this under someone else. Confused but still feel a cetain loyalty.

Lets not write anything off until the season is over and done with.

You never know, they might get lucky through the playoffs.

High octane situations such as playing at Wembley can bring the best out of any team,so lets jus wait and see, and if things do go our way, well I think that AB will have learned a major lesson, albeit the hard way.

At the end of the day, you still have to be behind the lads through thick and thin - those players probably feel just as bad, if not worse than you do right now.

Yep, strangely enough there are a few Watford players at Hereford this season!

I take your point about AB being up to scratch in 2006. I really believe he cannot do any more for the club and that both parties need a change. Gerrard Houllier had some tremendous years at Liverpool but stayed on too long and couldn't progress them further. I reckon that AB doesn't know what to do differently (other than make some strange substitutions) and that we're suffering as a result.

I may be wrong and we might storm into the Prem and stay up, but the direction the club is going in is a bit concerning.
Cheers. Rosh

Maybe he just got lucky in having Young and King..whereas his latest signings has been flops (the expensive ones) a bit like in the Vialli era but this time the TV deal might stick.

Are the young guys at Hereford doing well?

Bet they feel cheesed off that Ainsworth never gets a chance!

rosh99, hereford says...
9:28am Mon 21 Apr 08

Yep Theo Robinson had a fantastic first-half of the season at Hereford although he has looked a bit tired of late. Diarag’ has also played very well for The Bulls and the locals here have said that the loan players here have showed a lot of enthusiasm and potential too. They're still gutted that Ainsworth left for Watford, and even more gutted AB's not given him a chance too.

As for AB’s signings, I’m not too sure why he’s bought who he’s bought. Last year McEnuff never did anything for palace yet AB spent a lot of money on him, Ellington’s been poor for 2 years now, and Collins John has never ever done anything.

You’re right about it becoming like Vialli’s era too.. lots of money being splashed out on players that aren’t the right ones for Watford.

At least L***n lost again tho….
