Jobi McAnuff admits the 2-0 defeat to former club Crystal Palace yesterday was one of the lowest points of his career.

The win for the Eagles shattered Watford's automatic promotion hopes leaving them looking nervously over their shoulders at the teams below them.

And McAnuff was surprisingly taken off with 20 minutes remaining despite being one of the team's most dangerous players.

The winger said: "It was one of the most disappointing days of my career because it was such a massive game.

"We shot ourselves in the foot and we need to look at where we went wrong. But we have to make sure that we win our next two games and get in the play-offs."

McAnuff was the victim of raucous abuse from the away end but he says he is used to this and accepts it as part of the game.

He said: "I've had it in the past and I'm sure it will happen again. It's just football and you have to get on with it."

fingers crossed we will still make the playoffs. what a strange game, one we could have won, i think we need to go 4-3-3 and attack more. boothroyds job will be in doubt come end of season if we dont go up, how we have thrown it all away i do not know. If only priskins header had gone in, we still looking blunt up front, is why i think we gotta go for broke and throw more attacking players into the mix against two teams that we should easily beat. Anyone know the playoff dates? looks like well have to book the time off work, i really cant see us going up the way our early season form made us seem destined to do. At least Simpson sat in the rookery, now he knows just how much we hate the brand of football being played on our turf.

just seen scunthorpe turning over cardiff with some great play. god help us next week. i cant beleive these fixtures are now starting to scare me. this season is getting really embarassing, and going into work every monday and getting told my team is c rap is really starting to get me down. please play with your hearts on your sleeves lads. time for us fans to get some pride back.

Perhaps if he had put away his chances then the day might have gone better for all concerned, but it was not to be. We need ScorAnuff not McAnuff at the moment. Do we have a strikers' coach? If so can he get his head out of his laptop and do some work on the pitch?

Peter Phillips, Loudwater says...

We only need 3 points to make sure of being in the play-offs. (It's 3 because Ipswich can get to 71 points and have a slightly better goal difference, and Wolves can reach 72 points thanks to their game in hand). Would somebody please point out to Mr. Boothroyd that two draws are not enough and that we have to score at least one goal! Is his team, playing as it is at the moment, capable of scoring a goal?

Acxcording to LB the forwards were working on some goalscoring routines this week. We have no forwards coach so who was doing the coaching ??
Glad to hear that JM was upset - take it out on Scunthorpe mate.
No-one should give up yet.
Palace were very physical, determined and attacked with purpose and variety. Reminds me of our lot at the start of the season !!

B City and Hull may have started to fall apart. We are due a win and that is where momentum will come from. It would help if the fans were more vocal but if it needs the players to do something first then we can hardly complain later.

Let's be honest do we really want to go up with a team that plays this type of football? Personally another season in the Championship with a change of manager would be no bad thing. Let us hope that the rumours of a takeover are true. I for one would like EJ and GT back at the helm on the Board of Directors

2. Simpson is not happy with results or play, hence he sat in Rookery yesterday to distance himself

4. Ashton is off in the summer, new job already lined up

5. John is going back to Fulham

6. Boothroyd does not have all his coaches onside or the dressing room

7. Boothroyd has to go at the end of the season, regardless of division

8. this was my worst season at the vic I can remember in 35 years

I think they just mean the style of football compared to the playersd we have.

Its a little like under Vialli when we had expensive flops passing the ball to death backawards and sideways but to little effect.

I am amazed that Mike (Lord to his friends) Ashcroft’s posting to this site have raised little or no reaction from posters (see his contributions to threads immediate post Barnsley and Palace reports).

His Lordship points out in his last posting that we (WFC) have “had a three-year above-maximal return on & off the game & we're punching above our benchmark weight as an organisation, with a great strategic capability and soon to be welcoming ground facility for ordinary people & VIP guests.” He goes on: “If you can't take the heat then get out of the kitchen. Or better still, step right up to the plate & put your money & reputations on the line.”

As one of the “ordinary people” who has invested far too much time, money and emotion in this “organisation, with a great strategic capability” and put my money “on the line” by “investing” in a season ticket next year I find the tone of his comments at best patronizing or – more realistically, plain bloody rude.

Kevin Affleck – get on to this bloke and find out if these are truly the comments of one of WFC principal shareholders. If they are this once ‘family club’ has truly had its day and I for one am beginning to regret my ‘investment’.

Holly68, as a shareholder I am not over concerned about the financial state of the company, a £25 or £30 million would be interesting. I would be delighted with promotion. As a fan I am concerned with the second half of this season and would be concerned if we went up as next season could be embarrassing. As a fan of over 30 years I can say that only one manager has been more successful at Watford than AB and we should get behind the team as they push for promotion.

As regards worst season ever... think back. Bassett, Lee, Vialli - none of these gave me happy memories. Perhaps you drank yourself into a state of unconsciousness those years.

The memory plays funny tricks on people as they get old. I am sure if nursie gives you your medication you will see things more clearly.

Watford are not a patch on the team we played earlier in the season. Since losing Marlon King they seem to have become a 'one trick pony' with that long throw from Bromby.
We were far from our best on saturday but Watford were poor. I couldn't fault them for effort but there was a real lack of quality and their finishing was woeful.
All the teams around us seem to be doing their very best to make sure we get in the play-offs - none more so than Watford!
I wouldn't be at all surprised to meet them again in a few weeks time.

Jbc -I would agree with every word exceopt that our manager insiste that we had enough chances to have won 3 or 4 games.

We had more slightly chances than Palace but we do not create much more than pressure and half chances because we lack movement.

We should have won but we get very nervous if we do not score early and once we concede we lose our heads.

Worst season in 35 years don't make me laugh!

Play off place almost certain and then a shot a promotion.

Yeah its not automatic but its stil not a bad sesson. I can think of many many more that were worse.

How many other teams would gladly swap places with us. I can name Shef U and charlton for a start. Thyey have suffered at home once again with high expectations.

Don't care how it comes just want sucess for watford.

I grant you it certainly aint good at the moment and is very worrying.

Toime for all that though is not now. Judge the season when it ends not now we still have two (more likely 5 to go).

For now i beg all of you stop all this negative c**p. Get behind the team and see what happens at the end.

Please please get behind the team we need a united front for the play offs.

I've been a supporter for over 40 years and although we've had worst results/performances I can't remember feeling this demoralised. Half of the problem is the ridiculous spin that the club seem to enjoy putting out.

I can't see a good way out of our current situation. If we through some fluke get ourselves in the premiership who with and quality would ever want to join us? How will we score goals? How will we defend against premiership stikers? We can't do any of this in the championship.

If we don't go up I'm not sure if I can stomach more home performances. Maybe I'll just go to away games.
