There was very little to celebrate at Vicarage Road on Saturday as Watford ended their home league campaign with another defeat, but Tommy Smith's performance was recognised as your top display in the 1-0 loss to Scunthorpe United.

The Hornets' winger polled 6.4 out of ten in our online match ratings, but the only other yellow-shirted player to get a mark of more than five was substitute Lionel Ainsworth (6.3).

Has there ever been a game where the Man of the Match decision was so obvious?

Yeah, Barnsley at home, the old boy standing at the tea hut, he was the best performer by miles

Man of the match, when the team are playing so badly, is hardly a badge of honour. Tommy Smith must be wishing there were more players vying for this prestigious award.

Whilst I agree that W.F.C.'s home record has been abysmal and tactically we have been poor, the home supporters are not blameless.Of course if you pay for your ticket you have a right to express your frustration. However the players are all desparately keen to play in the Premiership and you can see the confidence drain away when they concede a goal.Groaning when a player overhits a potentially defence splitting pass means that next time he will play a square ball or a long hit and hope lob for the forwards to chase.Last Saturday Fulham were 2.0 down at home and the crowd started chanting we are going to win 3.2 and they did!
The away support is excellent and our away record reflects this.Booing and jeering may in the short term help you give vent to your justified frustration, but clearly it has a negative effect on the players.Lets all get behind the team if they make the play-offs, I'm sure that at work we all respond positively to encouragement and are defensive if criticised when doing our best.

PJW - that's a good one. The home crowd are to blame for the dreadful form at Vicarage Road?

That'll be the exact same set of fans inside the ground when we were winning games between August and October then.

Perhaps our fans were so loud in the game at Hull we drowned out the home supporters, our team got scared and that's why we lost 3-0.

I accept the fans at Vicarage Road haven't always offered maximum support.

But there again, how many times have they seen maximum effort, maximum entertainment, maximum effectiveness, maximum commitment and maximum skill?

Actually PJW old fellow fulham were away!

V road has rarely been a cauldron of passion and whilst we have far too many doom mongering defeatists generally,I think that the last few months would test anyones spirits my friend.

Of course, certain people were complaining before the season started and even when we were winning,so they lack any credence in my view.
