Ukrainian still in talks

Rinat Akhmetov is understood not to be the man interested in buying Watford Football Club.

Akhmetov, ranked 451 among The World's Richest People in 2006 and president of Shakhtar Donetsk, has been touted as the Ukrainian attempting to takeover the Vicarage Road club, but the Watford Observer understands he is not the mystery bidder.

Talks between representatives of the club, Seymour Pierce Ellis - the company brokering the deal - and a multi-millionaire Ukrainian remain ongoing and are thought to be at an advanced and sensitive stage.

Roman Abramovich is also not and neither is the queen. Another non-story. What next? Alex Ferguson is understood not to be the next manager of Watford? When there is something to report (facts would be nice) then report it, when there isn't then don't bother. Is Mr Affleck paid by the word????

Further revealations my good fellows:
* Princes Edward,Andrew & Harry are believed to have no interesst in watford whatsoever
* Graham Simpson has shown no interest in playing centre forward on saturday

* Kevin Affleck is not believed to be painting his arse blackpool tangerine on saturday

* kevin affleck is not believed by many sane balanced people to be a good jorno.

Further GBO`s
(glimpses of the bleeding obvious)

Graham Taylor is not in line to pick the team @ blackpool

Graham Simpson will not be buying L**** Town

The Queen is believed to have no plans to elope with Gary Glitter

Affleck is not in line to win any awards for journalism

Funny how Mr Affleck attracts such criticism.

I find stories like a manager pleased to have to not play in front of his home support more offensive and odd.

But in fairness I am sure Aidy is only paid out of away monies

Another non-revealation fellows!

Chris the Vic misses the point! (again!)

Boothroyd talks as you expect football managers to,AND gets strongly criticised on here for it!

Affleck is meant to be a JOURNALIST and it is by those standards that he should be judged.

I am sorry Christophher old chap but 1,000 lines please on:
"My inability to think clearly is reflected in my posts!"

By Tuesday please or 6 of the best!

Oh look, let's all round on the Watford Observer. After all, it's been a whole six days since the last abject, gutless performance from the team - followed by the usual reasons why we should have won and why we're actually brilliant from spin-king Boothroyd.

So, you're probably right, it is about time we found something to deflect the blame away from the club nd onto the local paper.

Let's put this story into context - the Ukrainian mentioned in this story has, in several places during the course of this week, been suggested as the person interested in taking the club over.

I've seen that story peddled on a number of football websites, and even discussed on two different Watford fan forums.

The Watford Observer have obviously seen those same stories, checked it out, and have come up with this.

If they had carried a story on this website during the week suggesting this Ukrainian was the one, the same people making cheap jibes now would have attacked for them running it.

Instead, they carry a spoiler story - and they're still attacked.

Damned if you, damned if you don't.

Oh and 'realist' - I didn't see you on here having a pop when the WO ran last week's takeover story, suggesting it wasn't fact.

Good job you didn't - the club's U-turn would have made you look pretty silly (although not anywhere like as silly as it made them look).

Could do with 6 of the best this Sunday, never mind Tuesday...

Goals that is. :) I was never confused...

Hapless - I am surprised at you. You have been such a wise Sage recently - not some Drinker.

You have resorted back to your silly name calling.

KA has done his job - this story has been doing the rounds all week. It appears to be untrue.

As it is, this is merely an abridged version of the longer story in the paper.

The WO appear to know who the brokers are, so they are clearly well on the case.

I think your personal attack on KA does you no credit as you are clearly a bright and well-connected man.

I seem to recall a poster on here a few days ago suggesting he wanted to make formal complaints because of the way he was treated by other posters.

But it seems making sweeping statements about KA and his professionalism are acceptable.

Double standards indeed.

Hapless Horn do you like the sound of your own voice? Half of this page is dominated by your inane remarks.

As for the story, what story?
Posted by: Hexham Hornet, Hexham on 5:04pm Fri 2 May 08
What a great way to have a new page for a forum and encourage people to but the paper instead of just reading things for free. Say nothing of interest or relevance in a non-story and end up by saying: "For the full story see this week's Watford Observer". I hope those of you that live in the area rushed out to get a paper full of such great stories!!

Sorry to tax your brain old JB but I apologised for repeated posts and pointed out that I thought they had gone astray.

If that is not simple enough for you I cannot help it,but that is your problem not mine.

Vicar Rage,I am off to sunny Blackpool tonight old chap, but just wanted to say that I disagree completely with your posts on most things Watford recently.

Your assumptions about me are incorrect I believe.

Anyway chaps, here is to 3 points on Sunday, just to cheer old Colin up!

Posted by: Vicar Rage on 5:42pm Fri 2 May 08
Hapless - thanks for telling me you disagree with me. At least that tells me I am probably very close to being 100% right!!

I am pretty sure my assumptions are correct though - old chap.

Hapless/sage or whoever you think you are at the moment.

In defence of Affleck he has a difficult subject to cover and with little inside track info he has to make the most of it. Given this i dont think he or his colleagues do a bad job.

In fact similar to you when you make a point once and then repeat it with varying degrees of nuance before posting it more than once.

I am pleased to see you are in Blackpool this weekend business must be good. I wonder how though with your various personality defects do you manage a team with an ego as large as yours and an even larger imagination cept when you resort to your schoolboy insults.

I suspect that all is not what you would like it to seem.

Holy Mother of God

Do you not think that the purpose of these forums is to have some sort of constructive debate all I ever seem to read is one v another slagging each other off, how V pathetic, if only the WBO could have a filter system then the fans would not have to endure such dross from most of the posters. come on you horns, come on the play-offs, come on Wembley, come-on the Prem.

Whatever my ill feelings are on AB and total lack of faith in his doings, i still think he is an honest man. But that can be said of most people...
As a true supporter of over 55 years i think that one can vent my anger on the total let down of the second half of the season..
There seems so much mud throwing on this forum, at each other. It would be nice to read solutions and honest points of views about our club and its affairs only.
OK i want Aidy to go but still want to make Wembley. I think as most others do that we are not even close for premiership football.
I was one of many that stood soaked to the skin in the rookery but still saw a good brand of soccer whatever league we played in, i only wish i could say the same of todays side.
My final comment is about route one football is this, world class players struggle to pick a pass so how on earth could shall we say LD do so. Only true quality players can play in this system .
When we was at our best we had the likes of Barnesy and Nigel in our side. They saw a pass, remember 8-0 against Sunderland that was real route one stuff.
Come on you horns..

Well said Mohican, route one football needs the players with the skill to make it effective not how we currently play it. I would prefer to call it the long pass.Ian Bolton was the perfect example of this,he could hit a 40 yard ball and place it on a sixpence, ask Ross Jenkins!Going back even further the late great Cliff Holton made such players as Freddie Bunce and Mickey Benning.Cliff was a terrific player and the team was built around him.Sadly, today we have no one who actually inspires the team,no leadership and certainly no one to excite the crowds the way Holton and the likes of Barnsey used to.GT always said that he signed the players who could play in the higher division, what chance this lot?Lets hope for a change of fortune at the seaside tomorrow. How about 0-0 and in the 89 min. we get a penalty and... you couldn't make it up could you!
Posted by: mohican, sutton on 1:07pm Sat 3 May 08
Thanks Tommy Gunn for your make good sense comments. Seems we like the likes of Tommy Harmer, Dennis Bond and throw in a Dennis Uphill to pick up the bits.. Cliff Holton to my mind was the best striker of a ball that i have ever saw at our club, nobody knocked him of the ball. Oh well thats the past..The only player to be in my starting line up would be Danny Shitu. The rest would be lucky to get in my reserve side..And apart from Foster,Johnson, and Ashley, have seen nothing but just ok players... So sorry if i upset anyone...

I am happy to see that I may not quite be the oldest!

It seems to me that Bunce,Benning, & co never made it with another league club and only played with us in Division 4 (Mickey of course was only a part-time pro)

I knew Denis Uphill a bit and he was very slow as even he used to say.

Our best players must surely have been largely made up of those who played in the old division one with us.

Cliff, of couse was a great talent but again a part timer.

I liked Cooky before he went to Fulham,as his energetic style stood out in the limited team we had in his day. For many years I used the pub he ran,and of course he sadly passed on a few years ago.

To me Danny Shittu could not possibly replace McClelland,Bolton,Si
ms,etc.

Anyway,I do hope we qualify for the play-offs,no matter how poor our quality of play.

After a lengthy search for my calculator and then again for a piece of graph paper, I am now in a position to share my findings.....

Number crunching has never been one my strongest points but having backed that formula up by checking and then cross referencing to get to the real issue, that's taken pretty much an hour of my time and missing the Man Utd game, to then come to that said conclusion, without a shadow of doubt ...

You are indeed fairly old!!!!!!!!!

Piccotts End - thanks for the accusation.

If all else fails, resort to some name calling.

That's the way they win arguments in the playgrounds.

The story at the top of this thread is easily defensible - it was reported in various places and commented on in various forums this week. The WO followed it up and it appears the Ukrainian named is not the interested party. What's the problem?

The chairman made himself look a fool last week. He denied any interest in the club. He didn't have to tell all - but as he knew the WO were going to run the story, there were plenty of other things he could have said.

I too have a shareholders' letter of notification. Big deal - it doesn't my opinion.

Difference is, I am quite happy to read and understand your viewpoint, without the need to get unpleasant simply because your interpretation of recent events is different to mine.

Re. Piccotts End post,I too used to have a swift half with Maurice at the Princes Arms,he could tell a few tales of his days at the Vic. and Craven Cottage. One of the stories going round, which was qute funny at the time, involved Hadyn Green the then Watford Manager who apparently took the players to the cinema in Torquay the night before the game against the local club.A western was showing at the time and the cinema was packed out.Suddenly,as the story goes,Hadyn stood up and shouted out, hes just shot 7 times out of a six shooter, its a bigger fix than football.Hadyn knew a thing or two I believe he was sacked and went under a cloud.
